Coming Soon
We are currently awaiting public records from Sarasota County that will allow us to provide an accurate, complete breakdown of how stormwater assessment funds have been allocated since the Stormwater Utility was established in 1994.
A public records request has been submitted for cost allocation plans, internal service charge breakdowns, inter-fund transfers, and capital project spending history.
Until we have verified data, we've chosen not to publish estimates that could be incomplete or misleading. When the records arrive, this page will contain a fully sourced financial analysis.
What we do know:
- Sarasota County has collected approximately $27 million per year in stormwater assessments since 2011
- The stormwater assessment rate was frozen from 2009 to 2022 — thirteen consecutive years with no increase
- Prior to July 2025, Stormwater was housed under Public Works, making it difficult to separate stormwater-specific spending from shared departmental costs
- In 2025, after sustained public pressure, the county began allocating funds to Phillippi Creek dredging — including a $10M reallocation (July 2025) and a $14.48M CIP approval (October 2025)
